Dawn Hyatt's Role at Plant City Main Street
The person who left wasn't a placeholder. Dawn Hyatt had led Historic Plant City Main Street for about four years, and by the numbers, she'd rebuilt the organization while she was there. According to a report on her move to lead Tarpon Springs' new Downtown Main Street program, Hyatt grew Plant City Main Street's annual budget from $80,000 to $300,000 through diversified revenue, expanded its vendor and food truck network from 42 participants to more than 540, and helped the organization earn eight Florida Secretary of State awards between 2023 and 2025.
Hyatt left to lead Tarpon Springs' new Main Street program. Plant City Main Street's next director will take over after a period of growth.
The April Announcement
Bay News 9 covered the fallout on April 6, 2026: after Hyatt announced she was stepping down, Plant City Main Street's officials decided to pause its events through the end of September. The story framed it as a real threat to the small businesses that count on that foot traffic, not just an internal staffing note.
Cody Lenz, owner of Three Hands Mead Company, was one of the business owners quoted. What started as a hobby became a full storefront in 2021, and he credited Main Street's grants and events with getting it there.

Event listings show Last Friday Downtown Plant City ran on June 26, 2026, at McCall Park, starting at 5 p.m., during the announced pause.
The Farmers Market at McCall Park has a similar story, with more ambiguity. Plant City Main Street published its full 2026 market schedule back in January, before any of this happened: second Saturdays from January through October, skipping February, November, and December, including dates in May, June, and July that fell squarely inside the paused window. Whether every one of those dates ran exactly as printed isn't something we can verify after the fact, but the schedule itself was never publicly walked back. The original calendar also listed August 8; as of publication, that date had passed, so check Main Street's updates before planning around the remaining dates.

Main Street's own event listings for Last Friday nights name a specific lineup of downtown storefronts staying open late: The Mercantile, Brick City Bricks, The Crafted Butterfly, Roots Tap Room & Wine Bar, Yerb Labs, Krazy Kup, Snellgroves, Three Hands Mead Company, Spirit Art Gallery, Dark Horse Music, Big Dog's Patio, TubTreats Bath & Body, Downtown Smoothie Shack, and Silver Dollar Saloon.
That lineup was in place for the June event, which took place during the organization's leadership transition.
What the 2026 Calendar Lists Through Fall
Main Street's 2026 calendar lists more than 20 event days for the year, including the Jingle Jangle Market, an Arts Festival, Oktoberfest, and the Strawberry Drop countdown at McCall Park on New Year's Eve. Henry's Hidden Train Hunt, a scavenger hunt built around ten trains hidden throughout downtown and tied to the Robert W. Willaford Railroad Museum, is also part of the year's programming.
The announced pause runs through the end of September. Oktoberfest and the Jingle Jangle Market are listed after the pause is set to lift, making them among the larger events to watch on the fall calendar.
If You're Planning a Weekend Downtown
The April announcement did not mean every downtown event stopped. Last Friday nights have continued running with a full roster of participating businesses. Main Street's original 2026 schedule listed Farmers Market dates at McCall Park for August 8, September 12, and October 10; since August 8 has passed, confirm the remaining dates before you go, given the announced pause.
