Two things make this worth pointing out to residents who might have written it off as another downtown project. First, it sits right down from Grove Roots Brewing Co., which turns two separate destinations into a single walkable block. Second, the concept isn't imported wholesale from somewhere bigger. The concept is similar to The Joinery in Lakeland and Armature Works in Tampa, and before, a lot of people were going to The Joinery in Lakeland. Now there are Lakelanders making the trip the other direction. That reversal is the story worth telling your out-of-town friends.
The yard itself is built for lingering. Beyond the food, it's designed as a communal space with a large recreational yard, shaded patios, and areas for games like cornhole, with live music and other events regularly hosted. On July 18 the calendar included a Tiki Takeover at Bowen Yard from 4:00 PM, which is the kind of programming that didn't exist here two years ago.
Three Restaurant Openings Worth Knowing About
Beyond the food hall, three separate openings this year are reshaping where people eat on either side of downtown. If you keep a mental list of "somewhere new to try," here it is in one place.

The Cypress Gardens Boulevard opening is the largest of the three. Texas Roadhouse is opening a new location in Winter Haven, bringing more than 200 jobs to the area. The restaurant on Cypress Gardens Boulevard was expected to open in late June, employs about 220 full- and part-time workers, and runs 8,000 square feet with dine-in and takeout. That's a meaningful employment story for a corridor that mostly reads as retail and hotels.
Davila is the more interesting cultural addition. Chef Yoleida brings 25 years of culinary experience, originally from Venezuela, with work in a wide range of culinary settings including small bakeries and Disney. The menu will feature foods not just from Venezuelan cuisine but from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. A scratch bakery on East Central Avenue changes the character of that stretch in a way another chain wouldn't.
Fully Loaded is the local-family entry. The restaurant is owned by Juan Angarita and his wife Samantha Dicicco, along with Juan's brother Nicholas "Nick" Angarita and his wife Cristen Angarita, and marks the group's first brick-and-mortar location after six years operating multiple food trucks across different concepts. It will be a full-service, family-friendly sports bar with table seating, booths, and approximately 15 to 20 bar seats, offering a minimum of 120 seats plus an outdoor patio. The team is also working to partner with local breweries in Winter Haven to feature local beer selections, which is a small detail but the kind that tells you how a place is going to feel.
The Saturday You Should Actually Be Having
If you've been defaulting to the same Saturday for a while, here is a version that uses what's opened this year.
Start at the Winter Haven Farmers Market on Magnolia Avenue from 9:00 AM. Then walk to Central Park downtown, which has been hosting weekend programming like the Unity Market throughout the summer. From there it's a short move to Bowen Yard for lunch and a coffee. Late afternoon, drive out to 275 South Lake Silver Drive for the Cypress Gardens Water Ski Show, which runs free performances starting at 5:00 PM on Saturdays. The reopening of Chain of Lakes Park earlier this year was treated as a civic milestone rather than a routine ribbon-cutting. The ceremony included remarks from city and county officials, community leaders, and members of the project team, with reflections on the rich baseball history of Winter Haven and the transformative impact of the entire Chain of Lakes site. The park sits at 210 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, which puts it inside the same corridor as the new Texas Roadhouse and a short drive from Legoland traffic. The parade begins in Lake May at 6:30 PM and will travel through Lake Howard before making its way across Lake May into Lake Shipp, circling counterclockwise, and returning to Lake May to conclude, led by the Winter Haven Police Department with the Polk County Sheriff's Office marking the end. The best viewing areas are Harborside Restaurant, Tanner's Lakeside Bar & Grill, Old Man Franks, and the Twisted Prop, along Lake May and Lake Howard. Those tables book up. Booking one in September is not too early.
